I can also talk directly with HR departments at any time, but I strongly prefer to have at least fifteen minutes notice to ensure that I am in a quiet place with my phone either charged or plugged in. For in person interviews, I prefer to have at least one or two hours notice depending on distance. I also like to do at least a modicium of research about any company that I am interviewing with, so more notice gives me more time to do that.
